How it all started...
A Legacy of Faith. A Future of Greater Things.
The story of Clayton Church of God began on January 1, 1928, in the humble log cabin home of Mrs. Ramey near Clayton, Georgia. What started as a small gathering of believers soon began to grow as God moved among the people. Following a season of increased growth and a powerful revival, it became evident that God was establishing a lasting work in the mountains of Rabun County.
On August 25, 1929, Clayton Church of God was officially organized by S.C. Chambers, Lex Justus, and Rev. Hubble, with 22 faithful charter members. From those humble beginnings, a church was established with a desire to worship God, experience the power of the Holy Ghost, and faithfully proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
What began with a small gathering in a log cabin has become a continuing testimony of God’s faithfulness from generation to generation. Through seasons of change, growth, challenge, and revival, one thing has remained constant: Jesus Christ is the foundation of this church, and the Gospel is our mission.
Today, we honor the faith and sacrifice of those who came before us while believing that God is still writing the story of Clayton Church of God. We believe our greatest days of ministry are not behind us—they are ahead of us.
God is growing and equipping this church to reach beyond the walls of our building—to reach Rabun County and ultimately impact the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Empowered by the Holy Ghost, we are committed to seeing the lost saved, lives transformed, families restored, believers discipled, and a new generation raised up to carry the message of Christ forward.
From a log cabin in 1928, to 22 charter members in 1929, to the generations still to come, our mission remains the same: Jesus Christ proclaimed, lives transformed, and the Gospel carried to the world.
This is our heritage. This is our mission. And by God’s grace, the story is still being written!

Expanding the vision...
At the heart of our vision is a desire to bring the Gospel to people right where they are in life. We want to reach beyond the walls of the church to meet people in our community—in their homes, workplaces, schools, neighborhoods, struggles, and everyday lives—with the hope and truth found in Jesus Christ. While the message of the Gospel never changes, we are committed to finding effective ways to carry that message to a changing world.
Where we are headed...
From a log cabin in the mountains of North Georgia to a Gospel mission reaching around the world.
Clayton Church of God began with a small gathering of believers in a log cabin, but the vision was never meant to remain within four walls. We believe God has called us to carry the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ from Clayton to Rabun County, from Rabun County to our nation, and from our nation to the nations of the world.
We are committed to fulfilling the Great Commission—preaching the Gospel, reaching the lost, making disciples, and equipping Spirit-filled believers to carry the message of Jesus wherever God sends them.
As we move forward, we will continue building upon the faith of those who came before us while preparing the next generation to go farther than we have gone.
Our beginning may have been a log cabin, but our mission is reaching the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ!
